In 1994 I enrolled in a two-year certificate program in Health Information Management at Central Texas College. The education that I received provided me an introduction into health service delivery and gave me an opportunity to work for a small psychiatric practice as a transcriptionist. In this position I developed entry level skills while covering the front desk and transcribing dictated reports. I only remained in this position for a brief period and worked outside of healthcare, as jobs were scarce. In 1996, after returning to Seattle, I accepted a position with Good Samaritan Mental Health Services as a Receptionist. After†¦show more content†¦In 2005, Swedish Medical Center was the opening to many opportunities for me in the healthcare field. While working there I held three positions; Medical Records Clerk, MPI/Study Coordinator, and Business Services Coordinator. As a Medical Records Clerk I processed and prepared medical records, as well as, archiving, filing and retrieving medical charts. I quickly advanced to a newly created position, Master Patient Index (MPI)/Study Coordinator. My primary responsibilities entailed performing analysis and evaluation of potential records for duplication, demographic changes and updating newborn records. In addition to correcting and merging duplicate records. Study Coordinator, was a secondary responsibility. I assisted researchers in obtaining the records needed to perform their various studies and I organized charts and ensured that the research area was properly maintained. In addition, I reviewed the researchers’ compliance documentation to ensure that they met the Institutional Review Board’s recommendation. My duties also included delegating nightly duties to the Assistant Study Coordinator and following up to ensure that her tasks were completed. The last position, at Swedish, was Business Services Coordinator for the Kidney Transplant program. I was primarily responsible for setting up and maintaining the new medical records file room, after the clinic joined with a group of ambulatory service
